my bio
I have three passions: science, writing and art. Somehow, I've manged to combine into a career, writing on science and other topics for children and adults and illustrating children's stories. Needless to say, the road to this career has been a crooked one. I have a Ph.D. in biochemistry and worked for several years as a research scientist before deciding to strike out on my own as a freelancer. This career change has paid off: I've written and illustrated a ten-book easy reader series for ABeCeDarian Company, and written several children's science articles for Odyssey magazine and the American Chemical Society.
I live in beautiful Danby in the Finger Lakes region of New York state with my husband Eric and my kids, Sam and Sandra. For fun I like to ski, sail, bike, hike, canoe, camp or do pretty much anything else outdoors.
my most recent project: ABeCeDarian easy readers- 190 illustrations in all!
my kids: Sam & Sandra at Jennings Pond, just down the road from our house.
my favorite place: Algonquin Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada, We canoe camp here almost every summer. Sam & Sandra love it- they don't even complain about portaging gear. At least, the don't complain too much.
my other favorite place: Holimont Ski Resort in Ellicottville, NY. My sister-in-law Nicole (left) sister Tina (middle) and I skied in shorts on an 80° day.
